Monty Hancock
Background
I’m a pianist and composer. Three projects, all released through Platoon:
- Monty Hancock: poetic solo piano
- veilpath: ambient and cinematic textures
- miiinty: introspective electronic music
Most of what I make is felt piano. I like it because it feels relaxing, and by relaxing I don’t mean pacifying, I mean empathetic. It’s the sound of an upright in a small room, which is where I learned to play.
I write the melodies at home and record them a few days at a time. Each piece is usually done in one to four takes.
The titles come from a note on my phone I’ve kept for years: words I like, things people said, lines from books.
Who I Work With
My piano music is released through Platoon and recorded at Karma Sounds, where I’ve worked since 2024.
On Apple Music the records have sat on Piano Chill since September 2025, with Keep Calm and Pure Calm alongside, and on Spotify’s Cozy Felt Piano. Seven million streams so far.
Alongside the piano I run a creative studio in Bangkok, and I film and edit my own visual work.
I still take on production, remixing and mastering for other artists when the music is right. Some of that work is on the showreel.

Where I’m From
I was born in Chichester, West Sussex, surrounded by countryside and quiet routines. My grandmother had a brown upright in the study of her bungalow there, with the sheet music kept inside the stool; she played Bach on it, softly, and listened to me play it back. I now live in Bangkok, a city full of noise, energy, and contrast. That shift between worlds sits at the heart of what I make. My work often explores peace in the middle of movement, and stillness between things.
What Matters to Me
I care about making music that feels honest, useful, and emotionally true. What I’d most like is for it to arrive when you need your mind held. The pieces aren’t complicated, and they aren’t meant to be. I’m trying to make a sense of home, so that when you press play you feel taken back there a little, even if you’re a long way from it.
